Romantic, Fun & Creative Date Ideas for this Valentines Day

Looking to plan something special this Valentine’s Day? Whether you’re celebrating with a partner, heading out on a group date, or organising a Galentine’s get-together, the Narrabri Region is full of experiences that turn simple moments into meaningful memories.

From sunrise views to cocktails, creativity and a little friendly competition – here are some of our favourite ways to celebrate love.

Mount Kaputar National Park: Sunrise or Sunset Magic

Sunrise Date

Start the day early with a drive up to Mount Kaputar National Park. Pack a thermos, a cosy blanket and watch the sun rise as it slowly lights up the Nandewar Ranges. Afterwards, roll out a relaxed breakfast at Dawson’s Spring – fire up the BBQ and enjoy brekkie surrounded by crisp mountain air and tall eucalypts.

Sunset Date

If golden hour is more your style, bring along a cheeseboard and local treats – pick up delicious relishes from the Visitor Information Centre or Relish Pantry- and settle in to watch the sun sink into the horizon. As the sky softens into pinks and purples, it’s the perfect moment to slow down and soak it all in.

Riverside Romance: Turrawan & Yarrie Lake

For an easy, laid-back date, head to the banks at Turrwan or Yarrie Lake. Pack camping chairs and a fold-up table, or simply roll out a picnic rug and settle in.

Create a cheese or mezze platter with local goodies or visit the butcher and make use of the BBQ’s at Yarrie Lake. Watch the birdlife, cast a line if you’re feeling lucky, play your favourite tunes and enjoy the calm, as day turns into night.

Pilliga Pottery: Channel your inner swayze

There’s something quietly romantic about creating something side by side. A pottery workshop at Pilliga Pottery is perfect for couples – or friends – who love getting hands-on and sharing a laugh.

Slow down, get a little messy and try your hand at the pottery wheel in a relaxes, welcoming setting. Whether you walk away with a handmade keepsake or simple a great memory, it’s a shared experience that lasts well beyond Valentine’s Day!

End the date with something to eat at the attached, Blue Wren Cafe.

Date night, your way

Book a table for two at your favourite local spot, dress up a little, treat yourselves and, yes — call the babysitter. Whether it’s cocktails and share plates or a relaxed meal where you can linger a little longer, Narrabri’s dining scene has plenty of ways to turn an evening out into something special.

This Valentine’s Day, a number of local venues are adding their own twist. From set menus to themed nights — making it the perfect excuse to try somewhere new or revisit a favourite.

One23

Swap the daytime cafe vibes for something a little more indulgent with a special Valentine’s Day banquet menu. With two sittings available, it’s a great chance to enjoy something different from one of your go-to favourites.

Bellata Golf Club

Enjoy a set menu for two in a relaxed setting. Bringing the kids along? They’ve got you covered with a fixed price option for food and activities to keep them entertained while you enjoy your night out.

Tourist Hotel

Soft lighting in the dining room or Ladies Lounge sets the tone for romance. Order the steak, sip a cocktail and settle in for a classic date-night experience.

And if you’re not ready to call it a night, they’ll be hosting a Love Island-themed Valentine’s Day party later that evening. Get ready to pull people for chats, hit the dance floor and keep the good times going well after dinner.

Galentine’s & Group Dates: Drag Trivia at The Crossing Theatre

Love doesn’t have to be one-on-one. For a fun group date or Galentine’s celebration, gather your crew and head to 80’s & 90’s Drag Trivia at The Crossing Theatre.

Hosted by two fabulous drag queens, this high-energy night is packed with nostalgia, laughs and a little friendly competition. Perfect for groups who love bold outfits, big personalities and a night out that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Assemble the team and book your table today!

A Little Competition: Narrabri Parkrun

If your idea of romance includes fresh air and endorphins, lace up your runners and head to Narrabri Parkrun. Whether you’re racing the clock, walking together or cheering each other on, it’s a great way to start the day.

7.45am for an 8.00am start – Meet at the rotunda at the Narrabri West Lake.

Our Top Tips:

  • Pack a blanket (and bug spray) for outdoor dates – comfort first!
  • Avoid the last-minute panic for flowers. Blooms on Maitland and Relish Pantry both stock locally grown flowers that anyone would love to receive!
  • Fact: Golden hour makes everything better
  • Local produce adds a special touch! Try Relish Pantry, Yield, the Visitor Information Centre or the Butchers for some goodies.
  • Get your favourite takeaway for the picnic! Chef B Pizzas, Thai – whatever your fancy.
  • There’s nothing like a dark cinema, a bucket of popcorn and that first-date feeling all over again. Maltesers highly encouraged.
  • Head to Black Snake Distillery and fire up the taste buds with an Agave tasting.
  • Stargazing out this way is something special. Find a spot away from town lights.
